What we store
Your account email, collection data (binders, inventory, wishlists, trade activity), and any card images you choose to upload.
Uploaded images
Card scans you submit are used only for your personal collection by default. At upload time, the license checkbox that lets us also consider your photo for the public site catalog is checked by default — uncheck it to keep an image private instead. Anything submitted for the catalog is reviewed by a BinderRealms admin before it's ever shown publicly.
Image screening
To keep Binder Realms safe for collectors of every age, every image you upload — card photos, your avatar, your profile background and screenshots you attach to a Contact request — is checked automatically before it's shown. Two detectors run on our own server. We also send the image to OpenAI's Moderation API, which returns safety scores; OpenAI handles the image under its API terms.
Depending on the result, an image is published as normal, held until a Binder Realms admin looks at it, or refused. We keep the result and its scores with the image so a held image can be reviewed and a decision can be explained. Images that were uploaded before screening started may be checked once the same way.
Contact requests
When you use the Contact page we keep what you send: your message and, if you give them, your name and email. Guests can leave both blank and stay anonymous. If you're signed in, the request is linked to your account so you can follow the conversation under My requests, and it's included in your data download. Screenshots you attach are converted to plain images (which removes location and camera details) and screened like any other upload.
To stop spam we record the IP address and browser a message came from. The IP address is deleted after 30 days; a one-way fingerprint of it is kept so we can block repeat abusers. Guests are checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, which Cloudflare runs under its own privacy terms.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal data to third parties.
Getting started and the Binder Helper
When you arrive through a welcome link or QR code (for example on a card from one of our eBay orders), we record which steps of getting started you reach: finding a card, making an account, adding it to your Binder. We record that under an anonymous visit ID, along with where the link came from and the words of any search that didn't find a card, so we can add missing cards and fix confusing steps. These records don't include your email address, IP address or browser details.
The Binder Helper remembers on your device which tips you've opened and which controls you've practised, and tells us when you've learned a skill, so we can see which lessons help. You can turn the helper off at any time ("Got it — stop helping me", or Account → Widget Settings).
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and remember your session, to remember where you are in getting started (and the card you chose to save before making an account), and to bring you back to the right page after you confirm your email. We don't use them for third-party advertising tracking.
